  • Buckley Boys Basketball Takes Summer Tourney Title; Lady Griffins Win Silver

    This weekend the boys varsity basketball team earned the first place trophy at the Desert Resort High School Boys Varsity Basketball Championship at Xavier High School in Palm Springs. Junior Andrew Farhadi was named tournament MVP. Junior Jake Brodsky and sophomore Nick de Bonfils were named to the All-Tournament Team.

    Earlier this summer, the girls varsity basketball team placed second in the Burbank Summer Basketball tournament. Buckley defeated Chaminade, Sylmar and Burbank to reach the finals.

  • SWIMMING LESSONS OFFERED AT BUCKLEY IN JULY – REGISTER NOW!

    Buckley’s new Swim Coach, Olympic gold medal winner and 14-time All-American swimmer Staciana Winfield, will offer two sessions of swim lessons at Buckley in July. Lessons are available for students entering grades 4-12 with sessions beginning July 1 and July 21. More information is posted in the forms section of the Inside Buckley portion of the website. To register in lessons for grades 9-12, please go to the Upper School Summer Sport Registration page (access the page through the button on the right side of this page). For lessons for grades 4-8, please go to the Summer Camp registration page (access from the Summer Camp button on the right side of this page).

  • Lower School Celebrates End of Year at Assembly

    The Lower School said goodbye to its students for the summer yesterday during its annual closing assembly. Students reflected on the school year and had an opportunity to celebrate faculty members Molly Elson, Rick Danenberg and Terry Stanford-Jacobson (practically a Buckley “Lifer” after teaching at Buckley for 20 years) who will not be returning next school year.

  • Middle School Rocks at Music in the Parks Festival

    More than 100 Buckley Middle School students in the MS Band, Choir and Orchestra performed in May’s Music in the Parks festival in Anaheim. With thousands of students competing from across the Western United States, Buckley’s Band and Orchestra were awarded ratings of "Good" and the Choir earned an "Excellent" score and the highest point total of any 1-A Division choir at the event. In addition, eighth grader Jono Friedman was honored as the best "Overall Vocalist" among all the Junior High/Middle School choirs in the 1-A and AA categories (these are size categories and AA schools can be quite large) in competition at the festival. “I was so pleased with how the Choir, and all of our students, performed,” said Choir Teacher John Hendricks. “And I’m so excited for Jono that he was honored this way.”

    After the morning competition, students spent the afternoon at Disneyland before an evening awards ceremony.

  • 25 Students Inducted into Buckley Chapters of the National Honor Society

    At a May 22 induction ceremony, 14 Buckley students joined the ranks of the National Honor Society (NHS) and 11 students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). The new NHS members are: Diana Barkhoudarian; Natalie Cohen; Evan Dubchansky; Erin Fukushima; Rachel Garfinkel; Marli Gitelson; Samantha Gross; Jalen Jackson; Daniel Kadin; Hannah Mitchell; Max Praglin; Sartaaj Walia; Lauren Wingard; and Carissa Zidell. The NJHS inductees are: Daniel Azadegan; Andrew Bernstein; Mark Cook; Kevin DeCorso; Dylan Johnson; Matthew Kogan; Nicholas Martin; Emily Matson; Edward Muhl; Sarah Schlitt; and Clair Selvin.

  • Honor Society Students Honor Faculty during Teacher Appreciation Week

    At an assembly on May 9, the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society recognized three teachers and one staff member in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. National Junior Honor Society honored sixth grade teacher Garrett Freeman; National Honor Society split the vote between English teacher James Evans and history teacher Christian Beam; the two groups also collectively honored athletic trainer Melanie Holland.

  • More Than 100 Buckley Students Took Annual AP exams

    During the weeks of May 5 and May 12, students worldwide sat down to take AP exams to test their knowledge in 37 courses in 22 subject areas. At Buckley more than 100 students who have been enrolled in AP courses since late August were able to show the College Board and the world what they have learned.

  • Boys Varsity Tennis Team Advances to CIF Semi Finals

    Congratulations to the boys varsity tennis team for its 12-6 victory over undefeated and number four ranked Corona on Tuesday! The team ended the regular season 12-5-1, placing second in the league. The team moves on to its CIF semi-final match versus number-one ranked Cerritos on Tuesday, May 20th at Balboa Park at 3:00 p.m.

  • "Wild World of Sports" Fair Hits a Homerun

    On Saturday, May 10, the Parents’ Association hosted the 23rd annual Buckley Fair. Gilley Field was packed from 10:30 a.m., when the members of the USC marching band opened the Fair, until members’ of The Heartbreakers closed the main stage for the raffle winner announcements at 4:30 p.m. Congratulations to the Parents' Association and many thanks to the volunteers and staff who made the day such a terrific success.

    Traditionally, the Buckley Junior States of America (JSA) delegation has done exceptionally well at the seasonal conferences they attend, and the Spring State Conference at the LAX Marriott during the weekend of April 11-13 was no exception. Senior Shawn Broukhim walked away with two Best Speaker gavels.
